Student Conservation Association (SCA) has summer positions in just about all the national parks. These are volunteer positions that work with park service personnel. You receive valuable experience working with rangers and the public in a national park setting. Your compensation is room and board and work experience.

The Park Service Intern Positions and the SCA Positions are very competitive. Plan to apply at least a year in advance to have a chance to work in one of these positions.
As a Volunteer in Parks, VIP, at Hot Springs National Park, you can make a real difference. VIPs work side by side with the National Park Service staff to help visitors enjoy and learn about the park in ways that preserve it for future generations. Think how much you will learn about the park by contributing to its successful operation.
Volunteers are utilized year round, primarily as campground aides or visitor center aides. Campground aides work at Gulpha Gorge Campground and perform minor maintenance duties such as cleaning the rest rooms and picking up litter. Visitor Center aides work at the visitor center in the former Fordyce Bathhouse and assist at the information desk, in the bookstore, or by guiding tours through the museum or along Bathhouse Row.
Volunteer couples work 3 days a week for a total of 24 hours (4 days a week for a total of 32 hours for an individual) for two or three months. Weekend hours are required. All services donated by VIPs are donated. There are no stipends for travel, food, etc.
For more information on the park's volunteer program, contact Jeff Heitzman, Volunteer Coordinator. You may also call him at 501- 624-3383, ext.652.
Last but not least, there are summer jobs with local hotels, restaurants, and other companies in the local cities.
